Day 1
Anchorage, Alaska - Tour Begins
Your tour begins in Anchorage, in the great state of Alaska. What better way to explore such a vast and undisturbed region than with a Collette Vacation that offers the opportunity to experience the start of the Iditarod Race and perhaps catch a glance of the dancing northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis.

Day 2
Anchorage
Begin your day at a welcome briefing with your fellow passengers. After the briefing, enjoy a city tour of Anchorage. Tonight, join the Iditarod festivities at the Musher’s Banquet for an opportunity to mingle with the mushing community. Enjoy dinner and watch as they hold their drawing for starting position in the race.

Day 3
Anchorage – Girwood - Anchorage
Today, drive south along the beautifully scenic Turnagain Arm to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, whose mission is to provide refuge for orphaned, injured and ill animals, and care for those animals that cannot survive in the wild. Today you will learn about this cause during a private chat with one of the keepers. Then stop at the world-renowned Alyeska Ski Resort for dinner. After dinner a seven-minute ride on the ariel tramway will bring you to a viewing deck, a perfect place to view the Aurora Borealis. Of course, no one can guarantee when the Aurora will be out but, if you’re lucky, you can expect glowing dancing curtains of light that ripple and sway, fold and unfold and then suddenly disappear, only to reform in a new shape minutes later.

Day 4
Anchorage
This morning, more than 1,000 dogs will line Fourth Avenue to start the world’s best known dog race. You can’t compare it to any other competitive event in the world! A race over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful terrain Mother Nature has to offer. You’ll want to head down to Fourth Avenue early to get a great viewing point of the “ceremonial” start of the race. Later today, travel to the Alaska Native Heritage Center. It’s here the local residents and visitors to Alaska are introduced to Native traditions and customs of both the past and present. This is certain to be one of the many highlights of your trip as you enjoy a chat with a local Alaskan. Learn about the different native cultures of the area, their histories, and modern day life as a native of Alaska.

Day 5
Anchorage – Wasilla - Anchorage
Travel to Wasilla today for the “official re-start” of the race. Before lining up to get your best viewing point, a stop will be made at Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race Headquarters. They’ll be plenty of time to explore the museum and view race footage for their video archives. Perhaps you’ll choose to commemorate your trip with a purchase of memorabilia from their gift shop.

Day 6
Anchorage - Tour Ends
Your tour ends, leaving you with many wonderful memories of your once in a lifetime Iditarod experience.
